It’s an interesting culture that we live in here in America. We are being told to unplug chargers and appliances and cords when not in use to save a few pennies on our electric bill and somehow it will help save the planet. Simultaneously, the past month has been dominated by news in the sports world and speculation of where “King James” would be playing basketball next year. I really don’t care, but I read someone’s Facebook status as they complained there was an hour long “pre-announcement” show, and they had already watched 15 more minutes of the show where he was supposed to make the big announcement, and no announcement had yet been made. All this for a guy who earns millions of dollars each year in salary, endorsements and who knows what else for having a Greek-god-like body and an incredible ability to take a round piece of inflated pigskin and put it through an iron hoop with a net hanging from it.
It would be interesting to know how many hours ESPN invested in covering this “story” for the past month, and how many millions of dollars in personnel and equipment. But how many people caught every news story they could the past month and read every blog they could find on the World Wide Web to get their best guess on which team LeBron would play for? But really, in the end, what difference does it make? Does it change your life? Is a marriage strengthened or an addict made free, or cancer cured based on what color jersey LeBron wears next year? Then why are we so focused on this? While I’m asking all these questions, let me ask one more: why do we care so much about what LeBron says, and so little about what God has to say to us? I wonder what it would be like if people showed up to their churches all across the country this Sunday – an hour early -- just to talk about what they think God may have for them that day. Just…thinking out loud I guess. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10)
REVIVE Student Bible Study - Wednesdays @ 7PM: It’s always an interesting time when our youth all get together on Wednesdays, and this week was no different. Right now we are working on a VBS we will be conducting at Star of Hope July 19-21. We are having a great time preparing for these very three special days, and also covering the preparation and the VBS in prayer. We need you to join us in prayer! Pray for our students as they prepare the lessons, music, games, crafts and snacks, and pray God will bless them as they bless those at this protective facility. Pray for the kids we will be ministering to, that they will recognize the love of an awesome God, even in the midst of their difficult circumstances. We will also need your help as we need to purchase some items to make this a great event for the kids. Please read more on that below.
Thank You!: This past Sunday we had a great service and great food at Brenda Capps house!
