Many of you know my sister-in-law has been dealing with a disease and taking chemo since early this year. This is the second time the doctors have tried this, as the first time the meds made her so sick they had to stop the treatments early on. This second time around, she has been writing a blog. There have been words revealing the truth of a hurting body, but sweet words of comfort and strength that can only come through the comfort and strength of the Holy Spirit. Today, I’d just like to point you to her blog. There are many pages, and I think you might enjoy reading several of them as time allows you. You might find some similarities and some encouragement. I pray you do. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/debbiemaulsby/journal?jid=5871372

Youth Bible Study: Wednesdays @ 7PM We missed some who couldn’t make it Wednesday evening due to work and other conflicts, but we did have a good time and enjoyed a look at a number of Scriptures. We contemplated the question, “which is more important, learning or doing?” Can’t believe it’s almost back to school time for our students!

Upcoming Church-Wide Events:
August 1 - Sunday Evening Bible Study - 6:30 pm
August 8 – Lord’s Supper Service
September 12 – Begin sermon series on the “Fruits of the Spirit”

Music: Do you sing or play an instrument? We want you to serve the Lord with your talent at CrossBridge. Please contact Kyle Mathis so he can incorporate you in the worship services. Thank you! Also, be sure to thank all of the great folks involved in our music ministry for the hours and dedication they give to help our church. How privileged we are to have such wonderful music each Sunday.

Facebook: Are you on Facebook? Join our group page and let’s get the discussion started! http://www.facebook.com/crossbridgetexas

It’s an interesting culture that we live in here in America. We are being told to unplug chargers and appliances and cords when not in use to save a few pennies on our electric bill and somehow it will help save the planet. Simultaneously, the past month has been dominated by news in the sports world and speculation of where “King James” would be playing basketball next year. I really don’t care, but I read someone’s Facebook status as they complained there was an hour long “pre-announcement” show, and they had already watched 15 more minutes of the show where he was supposed to make the big announcement, and no announcement had yet been made. All this for a guy who earns millions of dollars each year in salary, endorsements and who knows what else for having a Greek-god-like body and an incredible ability to take a round piece of inflated pigskin and put it through an iron hoop with a net hanging from it.

It would be interesting to know how many hours ESPN invested in covering this “story” for the past month, and how many millions of dollars in personnel and equipment. But how many people caught every news story they could the past month and read every blog they could find on the World Wide Web to get their best guess on which team LeBron would play for? But really, in the end, what difference does it make? Does it change your life? Is a marriage strengthened or an addict made free, or cancer cured based on what color jersey LeBron wears next year? Then why are we so focused on this? While I’m asking all these questions, let me ask one more: why do we care so much about what LeBron says, and so little about what God has to say to us? I wonder what it would be like if people showed up to their churches all across the country this Sunday – an hour early -- just to talk about what they think God may have for them that day. Just…thinking out loud I guess. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10)

REVIVE Student Bible Study - Wednesdays @ 7PM:
It’s always an interesting time when our youth all get together on Wednesdays, and this week was no different. Right now we are working on a VBS we will be conducting at Star of Hope July 19-21. We are having a great time preparing for these very three special days, and also covering the preparation and the VBS in prayer. We need you to join us in prayer! Pray for our students as they prepare the lessons, music, games, crafts and snacks, and pray God will bless them as they bless those at this protective facility. Pray for the kids we will be ministering to, that they will recognize the love of an awesome God, even in the midst of their difficult circumstances. We will also need your help as we need to purchase some items to make this a great event for the kids. Please read more on that below.

Thank You!: This past Sunday we had a great service and great food at Brenda Capps house! The barbeque was excellent, the charro beans, the cheesy stuff Jackie Mathis made, the baked beans, mac & cheese, watermelon, cheese cake, cupcakes, cobbler…we definitely ate well! It was just an awesome afternoon with awesome folks of CrossBridge. A very special thanks to Brenda for her very gracious hospitality, and to everyone who brought food and soda and water…it was a great day!

Happy Independence Day weekend! No nation is perfect, but how awesome it is to be a citizen in the USA! I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful time celebrating our liberties. And as you celebrate, remember those who stand watch today around the world protecting our freedoms. We all realize that liberty comes at a very high price, so remember our military in your prayers.

Revive Bible Study: Wednesdays @ 7PM. Those who were in town had a great time this past Wednesday as we went bowling. Also, we are working on a VBS we will be conducting at Star of Hope July 19-21. Each week is a great time of fellowship and Bible study, we hope to see all our teens there! Mom and dad, if your teen ever needs a ride on Wednesday nights, please let us know. We will work with you to provide transportation.

Independence Day: This Sunday is our nation’s birthday, and a special message on America. Invite a friend!

Independence Day BBQ: Following the service Sunday, we will be heading to the Capps’ house for a great time of food and fun. The meat will be provided; we just ask you help by bringing a side dish. We could still use help with a few items. If you can help with these, please let me know.

Be a part of the excitement Sunday at 10:00 am at CrossBridge! Invite someone to be your guest this Sunday!

Have a Great Day!
